Wild Seed Collection Workshop

  • Hilltop Hanover Farm 1271 Hanover Street Yorktown Heights United States (map)

Join Lindsey Feinberg, our Native Plants Curator, in this hands-on workshop!

You will learn to sustainably collect seeds from native plants without harming wild populations. We will cover techniques researched by scientists and implemented by the Bureau of Land Management’s National Seed Strategy.

In the first section we will cover how wild seed is used for banking and restoration. The rest of the class will be spent in the field. We will review how to use field guides to properly identify species, examine plant populations, and determine whether a population is suitable for collection. We will check seed for ripeness, perform a cut test, and fill out a data sheet to record important information for future collections.

This class was designed for adult education. We defer to your judgement about the interest level and maturity of your child. Kids 12 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult.

FREE. Registration Required.
